Pros: Good value for moneyMade of light wood, durableCons:The box is hollow, so if you put the shapes into their slots all the way, they just fall into the box. I had to put a smaller box in, so my son could play with the shapes without wanting to open the box each time.
i got this for a 2y old dont have to tell you she gets fustrated when she cant get the "square peg in the round hole" so she stacks them one on top the other to her thats more fun i dont mind i bought it for her pleasure. as a plus now she knows the yellow and red
My daughter has fun with these blocks and is working on learning the shapes. She is starting to fit them into the holes, and also enjoys stacking them, loading them in and out of the box, and all the other things you can do with a set of blocks. My only complaint about this toy is that, after only a couple months of play, the paint is chipping and peeling off the blocks. I'm glad it's non-toxic, because it's definitely not staying on the wood.
That seems like a MUCH better idea. I had to glue some magnetic strips on it to hold it in place while my daughter plays.
We purchased one that looks EXACTLY like the one pictured but the brand was Imaginarium. Okay, there are two varieties of these cubes, and the difference is subtle but significant.
Obviously that is a terrible design decision, because when you rotate the cube to reach the other sides, the top falls off, spilling the contents. It's a great classic toy that my 19-month-old loves and can pretty much complete independently.
However, the one we bought has a removable side that merely sits in place. There is an almost identical toy (often pictured interchangeably with the ones shown as Melissa & Doug) which has a slide-in-place closing side.
So please do buy this toy, but I advise you to choose the one with the slightly better design, if possible.
Unfortunately, I bought this toy on a whim at the store when I usually read reviews first and I highly regret it. Too bad. What concerns me the most though are the splinters.
We have owned it for 2 days. The box is just splintering off around the shape holes. This product is of very poor quality.
Mine has splinters of a good enough size that they could be a choking hazard on in addition to "just" poking into skin. Like others have said, the lid is too easy to remove and just slides right out by merely turning the cube. Not too much of an issue (right now anyway) because my kid is of an age where she just likes to remove the shapes from the box and not put them back.
I took this immediately away from my child. I'm going to try and return it.
